Queer Peace International

what is queer peace?

The aim of life is self-development. To realize one's nature perfectly - that is what each of us is here for.
- Oscar Wilde

It is not news that being queer (lesbian, gay, bisexual trans-identified, unsure, straight allies) has changed from a generation ago in Western countries. With more inclusive government policies, technological advancement and accessibility, and social attitudes changing, Western queers are facing more chances to better themselves. However, despite situations remaining the same in developing countries, non-Western queers are displaying tremendous resiliency and strength to organize themselves, and are making serious efforts to find peace in their communities.

Queer Peace is a cycle of change that Queers experience in order to create a lasting contribution to a better society. In following Peace Education principles, Queer Peace enables a more proactive approach to social healing and growth rather than engaging in political responses to the varying forms of homophobia.

Queers can initiate and cooperate to create opportunities of change through engaging in dialogue about how to recover from the living history of experienced violence. Essentially, Queer Peace is about peace-building and peace-making for Queer people.
